Can the DWO and DWP series HMI's be used in the rain? Yes, these fixtures are designed and tested under the European IP rating standard. The fixtures are IP54 rated and the ballast's are rated for IP43. The first number in the rating systems refers to particular matter such as dust and dirt, and the second refers to water resistance. For our products the numbers refer to the definitions below:
4 Objects of 1mm and larger shall not penetrate equipment housing.
3 Water sprayed at an angle up to 60 degrees on either side of the vertical shall have no harmful effects.
5 Dust shall not penetrate in a quantity to interfere with satisfactory operation of equipment or to impair safety.
4 Water projected in jets against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
